Mace's mere presence will screw with Anakin's head and make him feel guilty, hindering him. It'll turn what would have otherwise been a 50-50 duel into a solid win for Mace.

To fight Mace, Anakin will have to once again face the underlying guilt he feels over betraying the Jedi and slaughtering so many people. He's still torn at this point, which in part hindered him against Obi-Wan. Mace is the epitome of everything Anakin betrayed.

I disagree. If anything, Mace’s appearance would spur Anakin into an even greater rage. To put it bluntly, Mace is everything that Anakin hates about the Jedi put into one person.

Really? Personally, I think it'd just cause his guilt to go into overdrive and enrage him further, which will hinder him even more.
