Sorry if the rules weren't clear. To clarify:

"Members can comment who they believe could defeat Darth Malgus the easiest, e.g. Luke Skywalker or Palpatine. Members are welcome to debate other members to change votes. After five days, the votes will be tallied. Members will then choose between the two most voted upon characters."

Members vote, after five days the top two are chosen and everyone votes again. Members are welcome to try to change votes via debating but that's not a requirement.

I expect debating will become more intense and relevant when we get into more controversial rounds, especially later down in the list.
