Kenobi conceding inferiority to Fisto, who in turn was casually cucked by early war Ventress, shows he's far below Jinn, who was capable of matching a superior opponent in Maul for a longer duration.

Wasn’t a casual cucking at all, it was described as intense as fook. A casual cucking would be peak Grievous v Maul, a scenario in which Maul would honestly be blitzed.

Also, remind me of why Makashi was even created in the first place, and you will have your answer as to why Ventress beat Fisto. Throughout the book, CD honestly hypes Fisto to be vastly superior to Kenobi, in every conceivable way. By contrast, the gap between Ventress and Kenobi wasn’t vast at all. Stylistic advantages were heavily at play in the fight between Fisto and Ventress, whether you flock of hens want to admit it or not.

Fisto is physically and athletically superior to that version of Kenobi but Ventress kind of exposed him as technically lacking. If Shi-Cho's lack of lightsaber focus is his Achilles heel then almost any technically sound Jedi who can deal with his physicals should be able to counter him in theory. I'm not entirely convinced Shi-Cho vs Makashi is the real reason as the novel makes no mention of it being the reason for his defeat despite forms being a running theme of the novel, that said.

I agree with that, if Fisto had a different form, he could be more technically viable for 1 on 1 lightsaber dueling, which Ventress took advantage of.
