AotC Kenobi vs Qui-Gon Jinn

As of my opinion, I have absolutely no doubt that Kenobi takes this very decisively. Obviously a good battle but the victor is clear to me. Of course, you'll have to wait for a few weeks to get the full analysis on it

Kenobi, Jinn has no way of breaking his defence

Based on MP’s recent blog on Qui-gon, which convinced me Jinn has indeed seriously challenged Maul, i’m inclined to say he takes this, although it is a good fight nonetheless.

Kenobi can honestly can win this via superior stamina and speed despite being overall inferior by TPM for a minority.

AotC stands an even better chance. Especially since Kenobi’s new style somewhat negates Qui-Gon familiarity. While Kenobi’s with Jinn’s would remain.

It's doubtful Kenobi's style has changed THAT much. Consider also that Jinn is one of the most technically skilled duelists in Jedi (and prolly Sith) history, and his style is almost equal to Vaapad (TPM) in deadliness. In light of this, I doubt Jinn is going to have THAT much trouble adapting. He could predict Maul's randomised Juyo movements to a degree that had Maul legitimately concerned. Plus, Soresu is kinda overrated as a lightsaber form.

Also everyone, thoughts on this quote?

Thoughts on what is meant by "tougher" here? Another quote from the book talks about how Windu is the "toughest" Jedi on the council. Perhaps the use of the word means in terms of fighting?

Likely refers to raw physicals. Note of Jinn’s strength are quite consistent in the lore.

Jinn is sub Kenobi in physicals though.

It could refer to Jinn when he was younger. Because prime Kenobi is an absolute monster in terms of durability , if that’s what the quote is referring to.

The quote is referring to TPM era specifically.

Yeah, makes sense because we know his augmentation already surpasses Qui Gon's in the novel. The quote could just be referring to strength or durability, both of which are more associated to toughness than speed being honest

I'd still say that Qui Gon is better overall but that is an excellent quote, and can easily supplement my response to MP because it itself is well supported by his battle against Maul, he has excellent force feats in that battle

On the flip side though, I think that invalidates Kenobi's technical skill approaching Qui Gon's that makes my case harder come AoTC and given that there is virtually nothing indicating his skill increased vastly, it evens out

TPM era? Then it makes perfect sense. The “stronger in the force” thing obviously refers to potential, while Qui Gon, at that point time, is tougher than his apprentice. Unless i’m missing something, that’s what the quote is talking about.

It is TPM Kenobi

Jinn is obviously above Kenobi in strength and durability, though I don't think by much

Nobody here is arguing against Kenobi being stronger in the Force.

And yeah, all of Kenobi's quotes for growth circa AotC are "he matured" and the like. Pretty hard to really nail down any real improvements. Or rather, more importantly, quantifiable gains.

In terms of skill, yeah, it is hard to. In terms of the force? I was going to bring out a comparison between him and Jinn 3 years after TPM, but seeing this quote, it is merely going to augment my argument, not make it in of itself

Yeah, I think my job becomes a little bit harder.
