Lol chill I was just messing around. Anyways, there's no information stating or even implying Vader underperformed against Ben Kenobi. There is however various sources that state he was evenly matched in his duel. Your assertion that Vader underperformed against Ben is headcanon rationalization when you consider the various sources on the matter.

You can still under perform against someone while being evenly matched. Similar to Pre Suit Vader vs Kenobi, where Vader was clearly the one who under performed against Kenobi on Mustafar.KingofBlades wrote:Lol chill I was just messing around. Do you know what else is head canon? The idea that Pre Suit Vader was hindered on Mustafar. Even though there is no explicit source that states he was, yet people use this as an excuse to try and justify why a tier 9 character couldn't one shot a tier 8.

That topic is entirely irrelevant to the current discussion at hand - that being whether Vader underperformed against Ben Kenobi. There's no evidence that indicates this fact, however there is a shit ton of source books, and the primary material itself, which present the two combatants as evenly matched. With nothing supporting the notion you've provided, we must thus assume Vader and Kenobi are equals. Furthermore there is evidence regarding the infamous duel on Mustafar which can lead you to the conclusion Anakin underperformed, far more than there is in favour of Vader underperforming on the Death Star.

Adding on to what DC said, it can be inferred that Anakin was hindered on Mustafar due to his belief that Padme betrayed him (something I believe hurt him deeply, given that he betrayed his beliefs and life for her), coupled with his loss with a tier 8. Furthermore, Obi Wan performed far better than normal because of his detachment during the fight, which normally would've hindered him.

...
Btw, the evidence Vader under-performed is found in The Rise and Fall of Darth Vader. Did a similar post on this before, will quote post it later.
