As a Cerean, Ki-Adi-Mundi has exceptional mental discipline that can resist telepathic invasions.
The Last Jedi (2013, Michael Reaves, Mara Kaathryn Bohnhoff) wrote:In the back of Jax’s mind was the havoc Vader had wrought with his erstwhile Padawan, Kajin Savaros–what the Dark Lord had been able to do to the boy’s mind. But Yimmon, he told himself, was not an unschooled child. He was a Cerean and unusually disciplined even for one of his species. He had displayed an almost Jedi-like ability to think above the physical dimensions and to shepherd his thoughts. Jax prayed that ability would help him withstand Darth Vader’s formidable array of tools.
Ki-Adi-Mundi was able to at least make up for any Cerean-typical lack of physical coordination with his Force-assisted insight, allowing him to be one of the top ten duellists of his age.
Starships and Vehicles Collection #25 (2009, DeAgostini) wrote:Unfortunately, they also tended to be lacking in physical coordination, something Mundi was able to compensate for with his Force-attuned insight – he was considered one of the top ten lightsaber duellists of his age.

“This attack was with purpose, that is clear,” Mace Windu said. “And I agree that the Queen is his target.”
Yoda turned toward Qui-Gon. “With this Naboo Queen you must stay, Qui-Gon. Protect her.”

-Episode I: The Phantom Menace comic #3 (1999, Henry Gilroy, Rodolfo Damaggio)
Ki-Adi-Mundi notes that the Force has guided him in life and in battle constantly, and he is shocked that he didn’t sense Anakin Skywalker while on Tatooine, implying that his failure to do so wasn’t because of any shortcoming in Force attunement relative to Qui-Gon.
Jedi vs Sith: The Essential Guide to the Force (2007, Ryder Windham) wrote:Time and again, the Force has guided my heart and my weapon. I trust my most powerful ally, but cannot dismiss a sense of personal failure. I was on Tatooine before Qui-Gon Jinn discovered the boy. Although I sensed a disturbance in the Force there, how could I have not sensed the presence of one so strong with the Force? The master may be wounded, if the dice fall that way, but may not die here. It is not yet his time. If Biko and/or Oora get involved, they do not have “script immunity” and, if they fall in battle, so be it.
Do not involve any of them, unless the heroes get into serious trouble.

Jedi Master Ki-Adi-Mundi: He once said, at the Almas Academy, “I would be proud to serve with any of the beings here tonight. Who knows, perhaps one day I shall?” If he makes an appearance, that day has come. While stats for him exist in the PotJ sourcebook, they are not truly needed: he has “script immunity” and only appears to deflect a few blaster bolts, wave away some droids, affect the enemy’s minds so that they go away, or whatever is needed. A blaster bolt may wing him, for a little vitality loss, if you wish a medic hero to have a quick thrill by helping him. That’s as seriously as he can be hurt; this is not his time. If you don’t like script immunity, use Biko and Oora, below.
Ki-Adi-Mundi has an intense premonition of the destruction of Almas Academy.
Heart of Evil: Destruction (2005, Ron Heintz) wrote:From the Captain's conference room, of the main bridge, Ki-Adi-Mundi walks in. For once, his characteristic calm seems somewhat shaken.
“My friends. We have no time. Since the Force has arranged for you to be here, this may work out.
“I have been torn between two paths, and you may know that some Cereans can be almost immobilized by such paradoxes. I was not, but I came perilously close to having to put personal insight against that of the Council.
“I have been on the trail of a being who is very strong in the Dark Side of the Force. I have discovered much that I must report back to the Council. But, as I made my way toward Coruscant, I had a premonition of such intensity and such – horror – that I felt the need to deviate toward the Cularin system. On the way, I was attacked, by perhaps that very being that I thought was the object of my hunt. I now begin to think that the hunter was not I.
“He fled when your flotilla approached. Now, it is imperative that I return to Coruscant. But you – you must hurry to the Cularin system, to Almas. Please. Hurry.”
If the heroes press for details, Ki-Adi-Mundi will say “It is too dark, too uncertain – and I do not wish to discourage you.”
If they insist, he will say, with a distraught look on his face, “I saw Almas – burning.” That should really get them on their way.
All he can tell them of his target is that he is Human or a near Humanoid, large, heavy-set, and very likely as powerful in the Force as a Jedi Councilmember. Ki-Adi-Mundi does not have a name. He will also describe a small, black starship of sleek and deadly appearance.
Then, he leaves to go to the rest of the Coruscant Jedi, and his destiny…

Ki-Adi-Mundi deflects blaster bolts with Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi, moving his blade so fast it can’t be followed by the naked eye.
Cloak of Deception (2001, James Luceno) wrote:Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, and Ki-Adi-Mundi stood with their backs pressed to one another, deflecting a hail of blaster bolts the terrorists poured into the plaza. The blades of their lightsabers - comgreen, blue, and purple--moved faster than the eye could follow, blazing bright as novas as they sent the bolts caroming from the ancient stone walls and ricocheting off the sloping faces of the pyramids.
Ki-Adi-Mundi, with Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Saesee Tiin, advances against the terrorist lines, dropping many of them, and forming a shield out of their lightsabers.
Cloak of Deception (2001, James Luceno) wrote:Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, Tiin, and Ki-Adi-Mundi surged from the pyramid entrance, engaging the terrorists that had driven them back. A quarter of the way across the immense plaza, the Jedi spread out in a wedge formation, their constantly moving blades fending off blaster bolts loosed from ahead and to either side. Behind the energy barrier fashioned by the lightsabers, Yaddle, Depa, Vergere, and two of the judicials raced out to divert fire from the rear.
The point of the wedge, Qui-Gon advanced steadily into the fray, whirling and crouching, his green blade sonorous as it sent bolts arching every which way.
Terrorists fell wounded from the surrounding stairways, balconies, and rooftops, but none of them fled.

Yaddle rode in atop Ki-Adi-Mundi's broad shoulders, her short arms wrapped around his tall head, and her topknot of golden-brown hair plastered to her green skull.

Cloak of Deception (2001, James Luceno) wrote:"Explain it to you Cohl will, when finally you confront him," Yaddle said. "Until that time, resolve to yield or fight we must." Qui-Gon listened intently for a moment, then he and Ki-Adi-Mundi stood up and moved silently to either side of the gaping opening.
Yaddle, Depa, and Vergere began to converse again, as if nothing were amiss. Suddenly, Qui-Gon and Ki-Adi-Mundi reached into the doorway, tugging into the scant sunlight a humanoid who looked as if he, or perhaps she, had risen from the ground itself. The being's thick skin was certainly impervious to wind, snow, or high-altitude solar radiation. Y’know, super cool, and confuse the heck out of them with his crazy moves and stuff like that and that’s how he can kind of defeat them. So we have Dooku claim that if any of these elements – fear, surprise, and intimidation – is missing, you’d better bail.”

Please. Hurry.”

____________________________________________________________________________
Ki-Adi-Mundi is one of the most powerful Jedi at the Order’s peak, enough that it’s evident from the age of four that he’s especially gifted, gaining Yoda’s attention and apprenticeship. He is so powerful that even non Force sensitives can feel it.
Ki-Adi-Mundi’s species-inherent bimodal brain makes him one of the Council’s most intelligent members, lets him peer more deeply into the nature of the Force and its light and dark sides than would otherwise be possible, allows him to use the Force more efficiently than members of other species, and grants him base precognition already on par with the best of the Order before taking into consideration his own exceptional Force sensitivity, stated to more than make up for any slight physical hindrances the unwieldy skull might present to the point where it only plays into his dueling skill.
This perception comes into play when Ki-Adi-Mundi is able to sense incoming threats before An’ya Kuro at the tender age of four, and predicting the return of the Sith with greater precision than the likes of Yoda or Mace Windu later on. He is extremely keen at picking up on the thoughts of everyone around him, ally or enemy.
Ki-Adi-Mundi’s telekinetic powers are emphasized as a major part of what makes him one of the most powerful Jedi, and we see this in action as he is able to, while injured, lift and manipulate one of Jabba’s skiffs – certainly impressive even at face value, more so when one considers the medium.
Ki-Adi-Mundi is also not uninitiated with more obscure branches of Force use, demonstrating this by fixing a break in his shoulder, showing bone, in moments, with Force heal… nearly an unreplicated feat in terms of Force healing injuries.
Ki-Adi-Mundi is consistently shown to be very capable of integrating his physical abilities into combat, throwing in punches and kicks with his lightsaber strikes quite often, and demonstrating his willingness to maneuver with Force leaps and bursts of speed. Well-built to begin with, he enhances his abilities with the Force to be able to ragdoll trained mercenaries, resist extremely savage blows from General Grievous, and make it the best Asajj Ventress can do not to be overpowered by his strikes.
Above all else physically, Ki-Adi-Mundi is insanely resilient. I think it is extraordinarily telling that Mundi takes as much punishment as he does through the series, and the only, only time he is truly incapacitated before the fight is over is at his actual death. He tanks a skiff crash that kills everyone else aboard and submerges him completely in the sand. He fights Grievous, an inexhaustible machine literally made for the business of Jedi-killing, for minutes on end after every other Jedi with him is down for the count, after having already been exhausted in a devastating battle, after having been thrown into a mountain of wreckage that collapsed atop him. He is in a gunship that hits the ground and explodes into pieces not once, but twice, and gets out ready for more each time.
Ki-Adi-Mundi is regarded as being in the era’s top 10 duelists. It is a valid alternate scenario for him to take down Darth Maul in TPM. Excluding the other eleven members of the Jedi Council, he is the only person in the entire Jedi Order considered capable of taking down Dark Jedi Sharad Hett. During the battle in the Geonosian arena, Ki-Adi-Mundi is the one entrusted to take down the droid control ship, and succeeds in that mission. He is one of the last to board the gunships, a stand that is attributed to combative capabilities, and one of the few to survive the battle as a whole. Against General Grievous, Ki-Adi-Mundi does by far the best of his group, and holds out for a long while against the cyborg general despite adverse circumstances. Against Asajj Ventress, he drives her back for their entire duel. Against Garth Ezzar, though the fight is left vague, there is definite parity. The threat that Ki-Adi-Mundi represented was a factor that Palpatine took into consideration when timing his strike. The legendary nature of Ki-Adi-Mundi’s combat abilities make the famously ruthless Commander Bacara and his elite Galactic Marines wait until Mundi is at his most vulnerable to open fire, and even then Mundi hardly goes down without a fight.
Ki-Adi-Mundi is consistently grouped with Yoda and Mace Windu at the very top of the Jedi Order’s hierarchy, directly stated from the highest forms of canon to be in the top three most authoritative members of the Jedi Council, and implied repeatedly to be there in the films themselves. He is both a senior and lifelong member of the Council, having replaced Micah Giiett. Most other Councilors defer to him in authority. It is noted that the role is well-deserved and based on his actions.
Last, but not least, he pulls.
Ki-Adi Mundi is a very strong combatant. Respect him.

Earned it, the Chancellor certainly had -- no one could say he had not worked hard for the Republic and for peace. The luxury made Yoda's ears twitch.
"I don't know how much longer I can hold off the vote, my friends," the Chancellor told the four Jedi facing him. His soft voice sounded tired. "More and more star systems are joining the Separatists."

Attack of the Clones novelization (2002, R.A. The word had passed, from Obi-Wan to Yoda and the Jedi Council, and now from them to the Chancellor and leaders of the Senate, that the Republic was crumbling. The mood inside Chancellor Palpatine’s office was both somber and frantic, everyone overwhelmed by a sense of despair and a need to act, frustrated by the apparent lack of options.
Yoda, Mace Windu, and Ki-Adi-Mundi represented the Jedi, lending an air of calm against the nervous energy of Senators Bail Organa and Ask Aak, and Representative Jar Jar Binks. Behind his great desk, Palpatine listened to it all with apparent despair, his aide, Mas Amedda, standing beside him, seeming on the verge of tears.

Ki-Adi-Mundi turns to Lanius and says:
“I can now see why Master Yoda, when he sent me here, said that he wanted a Jedi who could carefully weigh both sides of an argument. It is as you have said, Master Qel-Bertok. The Jedi of Cularin, at least, can stand to benefit from the worldly wisdom afforded by those from outside the Order. They can also learn from those who have come late to join it. I still perceive great dangers in your unorthodox methods, but I have decided that they are balanced by the benefits.”
He glances at you.
“So, Lanius, since you placed so much faith in these people, to put your own future and the future of this Academy in their hands, I do not think that you will mind them hearing the results of your Trial: your probationary period is at an end. You are confirmed as Master of this Academy, and its tenure is extended.
“With the current upheaval, I will not hide from these good people that some argued that this Academy be closed. It is still a worry that further controversy about the Jedi, and our methods and training, could add fuel to the fires of mistrust.”
Lanius’ expression has not changed overmuch: a Jedi Master is good at controlling his feelings, if need be. Still, you unmistakably felt a sense of tension relax – perhaps your own? However, Lanius seems now to be bracing himself to deal with yet another problem. He draws a breath and then speaks, his expression serious.
“I have found out, from Snem Noonb, and based upon the reports of our helpers, here, that the Test of the Droid factory was tampered with, to make it more lethal than intended. It also seems that the incidents involving the smugglers and the street gang were set up from outside. Only someone who knew the parameters of this part of the Trials could have done so. Only one of our own students.”
Lanius sighs heavily.
“In the midst of this evening’s joy, sadness. My friends,” he says, turning to you, “I have one or two last inquiries to make, but I am convinced that one of the Almas Academy’s former students is now a criminal known as The Black Queen. She must be found and brought back to us, or she must be dealt with.
“For a mission of this sensitivity, I can think of no people better to ask than those I would entrust with teaching our Padawans. This would be a dangerous mission. Will you undertake it?

Ki-Adi-Mundi’s got wives. Not just one. Five. And lots of daughters. Usual for a Cerean. But a Jedi?
The Cerean didn’t look as if he’d been corrupted by attachment. Nobody mentioned it; Jedi did marry, then, and the galaxy didn’t implode. This fact was the bantha in the dining room, the huge, silent, looming thing that everyone could see but nobody talked about, as if it wasn’t there at all, and had to be ignored at all costs.
Just because Cereans had a low birthrate, and too few males, they had to take wives. So Ki-Adi-Mundi could remain a Jedi, serve on the Council, and have a family.
