Who is the more aggressive duelist: Darth Vader or Darth Maul?

I've always wondered who's more aggressive in lightsaber duelling, so I wanted to see other opinions.

Maul generally but Vader is worse if you piss him off.

Darth Vader. Rage is pretty much what sustains him and he's brutal in nearly every aspect of his duelling and Force usage.

i wanna say maul, tbh. vader is much more.... technical than maul. they fight differently. maul is quick, agile, uses two blades, never stops attacking, and uses everything mid combat. vader can use finesse and strength at the same time, while implementing punches and kicks all the time, alongside some usage of the force.

if you enraged vader you gonna have a very bad time....

enraged vader gets more powerful and stronger, but he fights like a gorilla tbh

Depending on the situation, both can be methodical (see first part of Vader vs Luke in ESB, Vader vs Obi-Wan in ANH, Maul vs Savage, Maul vs Qui-Gon on Naboo, etc) or really aggressive (second part of the Bespin duel, Vader's second fight with Ahsoka, Maul vs Obi-Wan on Florrum, Maul vs Qui-Gon on Tatooine, etc). All in all, I'd say Maul is a bit more prone to aggression.

As someone who has analyzed Vader's fighting style intimately I don't know why this thread exists. Vader is a very defensive duelist who COUNTERS with extreme force. The best examples of this are with Galen Marek as of TFU 2, Vader weathers his storm looks for openings, he does the same thing against roan shryne on kashyyyk, the same thing against Luke on bespin and he does it in almost all of his fights.

Maul also uses punches and kicks as a Teras Kasi master, he relies on Force based attacks quite frequently.

Maul is far more aggressive. Vader is primarily defensive, mixing in overwhelmingly powerful offensive counters. They can both be methodical, but Maul's version of that is just switching from one form of hyper-aggression to another to try and pick apart an enemy. Vader, on the other hand, cycles through playing defensively while sussing out flaws, attacking with overpowering force, employing precise counters that never go for less than a killing blow, or resorting to environmental usage to gain an edge when necessary. Vader's combative skillset is far, far more varied and less direct than Maul's, and he seldom goes for an all-out offense the way Maul does. That said, when feeling pressured, Vader can cut loose and employ a similar level of aggression as what we've seen from Maul, but this has been shown to backfire on Vader from time to time. He's not as well-suited to pure aggression.

I completely agree with this. There's a pre-ANH novel that says Vader developed a refined version of Djem So that incorporated Soresu, Makashi and Ataru.

Based on what I've read Maul, though I can't say I've seen all of Vader's showings. Vader usually only fights aggressively in spurts and tends to be more methodical in his approach. Maul can be tactical too of course but he tends to fight a much faster pace and really lay on the pressure.

Maul doesn't just use Juyo, he also uses and Ataru, Teras Kasi, Nimaan, Jar Kai and the saberstaff. It's also likely that he also uses Makashi and even Soresu to some degree.

Oh, I thought he used Juyo smh. Where did you get him using those other forms from?

Sidious trained Maul in all Banite training, which includes the seven forms of lightsaber combat. Maul has also been stated to be the most highly trained Sith in galactic history. Juyo also requires high level mastery of multiple forms, and for the Jedi at least you have to master forms 1-6 to study Juyo. I see no reason why Maul wouldn’t have mastered every form.

"trained in all forms of the sith arts" =/= all lightsaber forms, but ok

So where did Sidious learn all the forms?
