Oh, I've been waiting for this.
Malgus wins based off his probable superiority to the Barsen'thor and The Hero Of Tython as well as generally superior feats in TK and the like.

Dialogue from the HoT seems to indicate that he was able to match Malgus in the blade on his own and eventually strike him down.

No, he implies that he couldn't outskill Malgus but Malgus' frustration and anger made him faulter which is why he won.

Even Sheev thinks Malgus > Vader.

Hi, I had a question about the Book of Anger section in BoS. Sidious seems to imply that he got his inspiration for Maelstrom/Storm from Malgus' writings.
Wallace: I think you’re on the right track as in this is similar to how I was thinking of it
Honestly, the fact Sheev takes Malgus' approach to weilding the dark side of the Force and uses it to expand his own mastery and achieve his most high-end abilities, such as Force Maelstrom and eventually Force Storm, pretty much puts Malgus in another weight class here.
None of Sidious' apprentices could ever even concieve of the ways Sidious weilded the dark side. Yet Sidious is clearly taking Malgus' submission to the dark side in the close of Decieved as his way of achieving 'true power'.
How the hell does Vader stack up that?

Malgus was the battlefield MVP... until the great Saesee Tiin;
"A silent and imposing warrior, Saesee Tiin sits with Mace Windu on the Jedi Council. Though he rarely speaks, his contributions in both debate and battle are unmatched."
-- Saesee Tiin - LC - Saga Legends (SL11)

The HoT was able to match Malgus until Malgus faltered. The Barsen'thor outright states he is Malgus' superior, as Az already quoted.

Barsen'thor > Malgus ~ HoT > Barsen'thor.

The comparison isn't apt. HoT's engagement with Malgus and the latter's faltering were both clearly pertaining to lightsaber combat, while the Barsen'thor explicitly compared their strength in the Force to Malgus'. You might expect some sort of relationship between the two, but they aren't the same thing.

The HoT is never confirmed to be > The Barsen'thor. The accolade in question dubs the HoT the Jedi's greatest warrior. The Barsen'thor is not a warrior.

Note that Barsen'thor's dialogue there is likely the dark side dialogue option, subject to arrogance.

It's a neutral response, same as the one that gives the HoT the line about Malgus' form faltering, iirc.

Regardless, Malgus wins this fight. Pretty handily too, tbh.

So again, we come to this.
You love anakin with a passion. You clearly love his transformation into Vader as evidenced by your other posts. Yet, you seem to downplay his abilities. If the grounds for argumentation that you would like to stand on revolve around parity to sheev well...
"Bad enough Vader was as powerful as he was, though the emperor was certain of his loyalty to the darkside"
-The Essential Guide to Characters
Sidious views Vader as a threat to his current rule. One can ascertain that the power Sidious refers to isn't force related, rather Vader's military might right? No, that would make no sense within the context of Sidious and Vader's respective positions. If Sidious is in complete control of the empire, and as shown in Dark times can issue Order 151, which literally is an order to all of the stormtroopers to label Vader as a traitor and kill him, than it stands to reason the only interpretation is left is his current force power. Meaning that he is not only a threat to Sidious, but that it pertains to force power and force power alone. With that said, the idea that Force malestrom is impressive as I have seen you parrot in multiple threads is faulty. Firstly, we have seen Shadow Gaurds perform this ability in-game, and it is an unlockable ability that is canonical and consistent with Galen Marek's other abilities. Yet Galen Marek INITIALLY (trying not to get HP to give me a lecture on marek) has parity with Vader granting Vader access to this ability via Marek's scaling. Moreso, DE luke is noted as mastering the powers "Father knew so well" which means that Vader as we know had access to the Darkside compendium, and was likely aware, if not proficient with Force storm. It's a knowledge feat only sure, but considering Sidious mastered it and gave his apprentice access to his personal writings which included full knowledge on the force Malestrom, it is fair to say that Vader should at LEAST know how to defend against this ability.

The arguments presented so far haven't been very compelling. It isn't clear that Malgus actually is stronger than HoT or Barsen'thor, or that this would mean he's stronger than Vader. And the fact that Palpatine had a few nice things to say about him doesn't really give him any sort of decisive edge over Vader.

Not just that though. Palpatine had much nicer things to say about Vader anyway

Neither Vader nor Malgus gains any benefit by what Palpatine says about them, now can we please move on to actually debatable comparisons between them?

Well...
viewing someone as a threat in a clearly combative sense should be applicable to be completely honest. That aside however, Vader simply has a greater level of mastery than Malgus, his initial parity with Galen Marek (for however brief it was) is enough to warrant him above, of course I can't reveal my hand, but I have plenty of arguments for Vader in this case, though I may save them for a CaV on this very topic

Sure, unless it can be proven to be paranoia. RotJ Luke is a confirmed superior to Vader and we all know how casually Sidious dominated Luke.
