Thoughts on Authorial Intent?

What are your thoughts on holistic portrayal, authorial intent, etc. And how do you incorporate it into your rankings and such?

Do you have a specific example in mind? One thing I can think of is how ROTS Palpatine is stated to be the strongest Sith in history.

I think either you have to focus fully on it or not at all.

If the authorial intent in the plot is obvious and well traceable, it is much more authoritative than the attempts of people to “quantify” the characters based on their feats. Of course, this does not apply to those moments when someone literally forces the author to say the desired words on Twitter.
